Language of Power: Creating a Safe Space - by Ethnic Studies NOW!-Compton [Covel Salon F]
- Transformational change cannot happen when our basic safety needs are not met. We want students to be able to envision what “safety” means for themselves, their families, and ultimately their communities. Through the lens of the journey of our campaign, we aim to unpack the different intersections of safety - economic, environmental, educational, familial, physical, spiritual, etc. - and how that relates to creating the change they wish to see. “At the end of it all, this initiative is about self-love and empowerment while dismantling the legacy of white supremacy that continues to perpetuate violence against ourselves, each other, and our community. We believe that when students begin to think critically about their own race, gender, ethnicity and location- students will be empowered to become agents of social justice.” - Ethnic Studies NOW!-Compton
